Misty Mountains: Hiking Photo Tour in Northern Norway
Hiking, tenting, and photographing one of Norway's most amazing and secretive mountain landscapes.
A Remote Hiking Photography Expedition in Northern Norway
This is not a hotel-based workshop.
It’s six days of carrying everything you need into one of Northern Norway’s most secluded mountain landscapes. No roads. No crowds. No marked viewpoints.
Just us, the weather, and a landscape that rewards patience.
We’ll move slowly through a remote mountain region north of Lofoten, setting up camp in carefully chosen locations and exploring the surrounding peaks, ridgelines, and alpine lakes with cameras in hand.
This is a small-group expedition for photographers who want more than accessible viewpoints. It’s about immersion. Solitude. Learning to work with mountain light in real conditions.
Tour Highlights
The Misty Mountains expedition takes us deep into rugged terrain rarely visited by photographers. Unlike more accessible regions of Northern Norway, this area remains quiet and largely untouched.
We camp in the mountains, positioning ourselves where the light is best at crucial times. Instead of driving between locations, we live within the landscape for the week.
Low clouds drifting through valleys, layers of receding ridgelines, reflections in isolated lakes, and dramatic mountain silhouettes are all part of what makes this region special. When conditions align, the atmosphere can feel almost surreal, yet completely authentic to Northern Norway’s raw character.
With a maximum of eight participants, the group remains small and focused. The long days spent hiking together create space not only for photography, but for deeper discussions about vision, composition and creative growth.
What to Expect from the Misty Mountains Photo Tour
This is a physically demanding expedition.
There is no technical climbing involved, but we hike through steep, rugged terrain while carrying full backpacks, including tents and personal gear. You should have solid hiking experience and feel comfortable spending long days in the mountains under variable weather conditions.
In return, you gain access to locations that very few photographers ever reach.
Photography throughout the week is entirely landscape-focused. We work hands-on in the field with composition in complex mountain terrain, adapting to changing weather and using the atmosphere creatively rather than fighting it.
Some participants may need technical refinement. Others benefit more from guidance in simplifying scenes or strengthening their visual storytelling. With such a small group, we adapt to each individual rather than teaching from a fixed script.
The goal is not simply to capture impressive scenes. It is to help you leave with stronger decision-making skills in demanding environments.
Misty Mountains Tour Itinerary
The expedition runs over six days in the mountains near Evenes, north of Lofoten. The nearest airport is Harstad/Narvik (Evenes).
The exact hiking route is determined closer to departure to ensure we choose the most suitable areas based on seasonal and weather conditions. Flexibility is an essential part of working in remote mountain terrain, and decisions are always made with both safety and photographic potential in mind.
Each day typically involves relocating camp or exploring surrounding peaks and viewpoints from a central base.
During the midnight sun period, the rhythm of the days shifts naturally. We often photograph late into the evening or through the night when the light softens, and the mountains glow. Mornings are slower, allowing time to rest, recover, and move deliberately rather than rushing to the next camp.
Evenings around camp are simple and social. We cook, talk, share experiences from the day, and sometimes just sit quietly, watching the light change across the landscape. The stillness of the mountains becomes part of the experience.
Additional Information
You are expected to carry your own equipment throughout the expedition, including tent and personal gear. A detailed equipment list will be provided upon registration.
We provide high-quality mountain tents from Hilleberg and Helsport, as well as shared cooking equipment. You are welcome to bring your own tent if preferred.
Meals consist of carefully planned, high-quality freeze-dried food designed to meet the calorie demands of multi-day mountain travel. Food is portioned and distributed for each day to ensure adequate energy throughout the expedition.
This is not a comfort-based workshop. Weather conditions can vary, and mountain environments require adaptability. Decisions regarding route adjustments or schedule changes are made with safety as the highest priority.
